Due to unforseen circumstances vocalist Kemp Harris will not be performing this evening
Kemp Harris with Al Hospers & the Valley Horns is a 7-piece band playing in the New England area. The band plays and eclectic mix of cover tunes and unique arrangements of instantly recognizable tunes as well as original songs that audiences have come to enjoy.
The core band features Al Hospers on bass and vocals, Mike Sakash on saxophone, Jarrod Taylor on guitar, Andy Emmanuel on saxaphone, Tom Robinson on keyboard, and Bill Mead on drums. They play dance & rock music, with a heavy emphasis on R&B and the groove, plus some funky jazz and up-tempo swing.
Unfortunately, we will not be welcoming Kemp Harris tonight. Kemp is an acclaimed singer/songwriter/performer with influences that encompass funk, jazz, blues and more. Kemp honed his powerful, intimate, performance style in Cambridge’s coffeehouses, developing into a magnetic frontman who has shared stages with artists such as Koko Taylor, Gil Scott-Heron, and Taj Mahal. He has composed original music for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Compexions Contemporary Ballet, established a songwriting residency at Boston’s Wang Theater, and recently delivered a series of master classes at Berklee College of Music on the subject of Artists as Activists, alongside Chad Stokes of the band Dispatch and members of the dance troupe Urban Bush Women.
Band Leader, bassist and Musical Director Al Hospers has done studio work in NY, played with BS&T and Buddy Rich, played with a variety of well-known regional artists including James Montgomery, Diane Blue, Bruce Marshall, as well as records and produces a wide variety of artists. Al has also toured as opening acts with Tower Of Power, Argent, Canned Heat, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Elvin Bishop and has performed with jazz greats Louis Bellson and Stan Getz and had a rock/pop band with Bruce Hornsby.
