The Denmark Arts Center is very excited about plans for three art exhibitions this year; Earth, Water, Fire and Air. Let’s focus our creative, civic and natural imaginations on the four basic elements to create many marvelous and varied visual interpretations about these themes. We hope to inspire and move our collective imaginations toward a sustainable planet for us all to cherish and explore by bringing awareness to the many visual forms these themes can take. All life interacts with the environment on earth. When in balance, harmony and continuity of life is possible.
The Denmark Arts Center is an award-winning 501(c)3 cultural organization founded in 1994 in the rural community of Denmark, Maine. Housed in the historic 1883 Odd Fellows Hall, the DAC offers year-round events and workshops in contemporary dance, theater, music and visual art to community members young and old. The DAC provides an important creative and community hub for Western Maine and the Mount Washington Valley with diverse and original programming.

Theme: Earth
Our dynamic earth is a ball of rotating life. The earth has coevolved with and shapes all living and nonliving things. The energy of the earth draws things towards its center holding its mysteries within. We think of the earth as having an exterior and an interior upon which we live. It is not only the ground beneath our feet but also, because of its massive heaviness and density, a mass all things gravitate towards. In the past earth was thought of as heavy and solid with a fixed physical environment. Today most perceive the earth as a biosphere with living and nonliving components that shape, respond to and cycle through the biota of the earth. The living planet is an ecosystem that has processes that regulate the entire planet. A living world of inanimate materials that constantly regenerates life, rivers, mountains, rocks, and minerals dynamically in active interrelationships upon which we all depend. The earth retains, solidifies, supports, sustains and endures. Our earth is much more than a location for life but an interactive partner for all living things; a superorganism and a place for us all to live.

Theme: Water
The dynamic and beautiful element water runs around the earth in various forms nourishing, healing, cleansing, and purifying. Water the receiver is fluidic, soaking and dissolving. Its cycle of rainfall creates rivers, lakes and oceans. Water cycles to form clouds and repeats the process again and again. Water is the only natural substance that exists in three forms: liquid, solid and gas. Water can be thought of as having movement, moods and lifegiving properties. Water can take the liquid form as in bodies of water, flowing and falling. Solid water takes the form of ice, snow or glaciers. Water vapor (gas) is in transition to liquid in the form of clouds, mist or steam.

Theme: Fire & Air
Air forms the atmosphere in which we live and move. We exchange with air and need to breathe it. Oxygen on which life depends comes from photo synthesis carried out by plants. Oxygen in the atmosphere was put there by life. Oxygen is interactive and quickly combines with other elements and compounds and disappears. All living things are part of and drive earth’s oxygen cycle. Air is a gaseous state that flows, blasts, lifts, and hurriedly fills every vacuum.
Fire can exist in an igneous, incandescent or a metamorphic state. Fire is the most energetic and dynamic of all the elements. Fire lights the sun and stars with its brilliance. Fire can be dynamic or subtle. It sears, melts, purifies, creates, destroys and heals. Fire is mutable and transforming. Fire is volatile and the greatest emitter of energy.

If you do not have an Entrythingy account and access Entrythingy through the URL provided on the Denmark Arts Center website, www.denmarkarts.org, you will see the following:
“Is this your first time using Entrythingy? Then enter your name, email address and create a password to sign up and submit your entry.”
a) IMPORTANT: The name you enter for your Entrythingy account will be the artist’s name that is displayed on the wall label and any/all exhibit materials!
b) Each Entrything account is linked to ONE e-mail address. You cannot create a second account using that same e-mail address. You cannot enter for someone else using your own account…or YOUR name will appear with their work.
c) After creating an account, you will be taken to a page that shows the DAC Call for Art
ONCE YOU ARE LOGGED IN TO ENTRYTHINGY
1) On the DAC Call for Art page you will see entry instructions that require a checkmark at the bottom indicating that you have read and understand the document. Pay attention to “Eligibility” before going on to the next page to be sure that you and your art meet the show criteria. Once you complete the check, you will be taken to the next page.
2) If an artist statement is requested, you will need to enter that next. We recommend that you create your statement in advance and then cut and paste it into the supplied box rather than editing it online. (However, if needed, it can be edited later by going back into your Entrythingy profile.) Hit SUBMIT. You will be taken to the next page.
3) Under CATEGORY, you will need to choose Drawing, Painting, Photography, Print, Mixed Media, or Other.
Answer all questions on this page including “I agree with the terms of entry,” and hit: Save and Continue to Next Step
4) The next page is where you will add your images and titles.
a) IMPORTANT: Please do NOT use all caps and pay special attention to spelling. Whatever you type here will appear exactly that way on your wall label and any/all exhibit materials!
b) If you have images in Entrythingy that conform to our file format specs and naming convention, and want to submit those, you may. If you are uploading new images, to avoid upload issues make sure they are actually on your computer and not on a thumb drive or disc.
c) Make sure that your images conform to the file format.
d) REALLY IMPORTANT: After you complete the upload of the first image file, you will see the piece, its title and price. ABOVE that image file will be a button entitled ADD FILE. To add your second image file, you MUST click this ‘Add File’ link, and so on for each additional file. (It would be easier or make more sense if the ADD FILE link were under the image, but it is not.)
e) When you have completed uploading your image (s), there are two buttons at the top right REVIEW THE INSTRUCTIONS (if you need to see that page again) or JURY VIEW. It’s a good idea to check out the Jury View so you know exactly what MGNE will receive.
5) For the final step, you must click the PayPal button on the right to pay your entry fee. When you have completed payment at PayPal, your entry is automatically submitted. Unlike many sites, you will not be directed back to the Entrythingy site. You are all set! However, if you would like to confirm your completed submission, you can log back into Entrythingy, look on the right side under MY ENTRIES, click on View Entry, and your submission should be displayed.
