MUSICAL THEATER CAMP with MARY BASTONI
July 24-28 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Ages: 7+
This summer’s play is THE POINT by Harry Nilsson — The story is of the round-headed Oblio who has had to wear a pointed hat since birth to conceal his “pointless” condition from his pointy-headed peers. However, Oblio is accepted in the town despite his nonconformity, until one day, when the son of an evil count is unwittingly dishonored by Oblio. The count’s son challenges Oblio to a one-on-one game of Triangle Toss, where participants catch triangles on their heads. Oblio wins with the help of his dog Arrow. In a fit of rage, the count, who wants his son to rule the land one day, confronts the good-hearted but timid king to reaffirm the law of the land, which states that those who are pointless must be banished from the kingdom and into the Pointless. Forest. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Point!)
Camp is a 5-day workshop held July 24-28 with a performance on Saturday, July 29 at 1pm that is open to the public. During the week, the class will put together a fully staged production with music and costumes. Activities include staging, character building, singing and movement and lots of fun! Saturday, July 29th students will arrive at 9am for a dress rehearsal for a 1pm performance. The camp is open to ages 7 and up. (Pack a lunch and drink for the day). Camp is limited to 15 children.
We know your parents are talented too and we need their help! Wednesday-Friday we will be making and painting the set, sewing costumes, making and finding props and we’d love to have your help, if you’ve time.
Mary Bastoni is the wonderful director and costume designer of this year’s hit production Matilda at M&D productions. Mary teaches at the School of Music at the University of Southern Maine and at Mountain Top Music Center.
An online registration link will be posted May 1st for Summer 2023 Camp sign up. Or you can print registration (document link below) and mail. Camp is $100.
