AUTHOR SERIES-Ryan Brod & Tributaries with SS Flies-Peter Smith & Greg Newton Brown-Sunday, June 23 5pm

Ryan will be joined by author Gregory Newton Brown and SS Flies’ Peter Smith to talk about Tributaries: Essays from Woods & Waters , a collection of contemporary outdoor narratives exploring the line between passion and obsession. Discussion will also venture into the world of anglers and flyfishing.

Through the lens of a late-30-something, Tributaries explores the complex, evolving relationships between fathers and sons, between fishing buddies, between anglers and guides, and between outdoorspeople and the landscapes they cherish.

From pine-encroached rivers of Maine’s Aroostook County, to the turquoise flats of Florida Bay, Tributaries draws unexpected parallels between places, investigating the ways in which landscapes impact our lives and relationships. Rendered in vivid detail, Tributaries examines tension between presence and memory, illuminating fleeting yet transcendent moments that stay with us forever.

Ryan Brod’s writing has appeared in River Teeth: A journal of Nonfiction Narrative, Tahoma Literary Review, The Maine Review, and Gray’s Sporting Journal, among many others, and he’s a senior contributor at The Drake magazine. A Maine native, fishing guide, and filmmaker, he grew up in Smithfield and now lives in Portland. He teaches first-year writing and creative nonfiction at the University of New England.

Author Series is sponsored by Bridgton Books and created by a collaboration of Denmark Historical Society, Denmark Library & Denmark Arts Center & a generous community ANGEL who thought to pay it forward – so much thanks!
